hy mess with success? For the second year in a row, Teknion Furniture Systems of Toronto turned to design firm Burdifilek to create its exhibit for the International Interior Design Exposition/NeoCon Canada. And for the second year in a row, Teknion’s booth brought home an Exhibitor Design Award. |

Award number two comes in response to Teknion’s marketing goal of increasing brand awareness rather than promoting a specific product line. To achieve that goal, Burdifilek created an uncomplicated, linear, modern space in which to display the high-end office furniture.
“It’s a realistic setting that isn’t just a big blob of product display,” one judge says.
But it is a product display. So what sets it apart? One word: color.
Designer Diego Burdi says that the display was inspired by the 25 binders of products and color samples Teknion sent them. “We were amazed at the palette of finishes they had available,” Burdi says. “Not just the same old gray, tan, and taupe of typical office furniture.”
The exhibit’s perforated ceiling canopy filters out the convention lighting in favor of halogen lights. The more-natural lighting emphasized the colors of the furniture so well, customers inquired about when the “new” finishes would be available (not knowing they had been available all along).
“We really couldn’t have asked for anything more,” says Sorrelle Golomb, project coordinator for Teknion. “It’s a shame we had to take it down.” |
